Our Team

UMIA is a group of professional medical interpreters and industry colleagues united by a shared commitment to protecting the interests of medical interpreters and strengthening our profession.

We advocate for fair working conditions, professional recognition, and responsible practices within the medical interpreting industry. We are particularly concerned about contracting practices that move interpreter work outside the United States when those services are supported by public healthcare programs, including Medicare and Medicaid, and the impact these practices can have on U.S.-based medical interpreters and the communities they serve.
